Mexican pyramid off limits for Yahoo

Earlier in the week, Yahoo Inc. launched a project that invited web-users to send the company information, photos, videos and sounds that will be launched to space. People were able to send any material they wished extraterrestrial life in space to receive. It was to be beamed by laser into space on October 25 from the Pyramid of the Sun at Teotihuacan, once the center of a sprawling pre-Hispanic empire.

But Mexican objected the "time capsule" project, fearing damage to the ancient ruins. The plan was abandoned Wednesday after Yahoo was officially denied permission. Mexico`s National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) spokesperson said the project posed technical and operational problems that could have damaged Teotihuacan.

The project, however, is not abandoned by Yahoo. The company said it will execute the spacey idea at a different date, from a different site. In the meantime they are collecting users content of all forms and styles to their database, from all over the world through 20 of the company`s multi-language sites.
