Sellers Do Not Like eBay Best Match Search
The holiday shopping season is approaching, on the web as well as in the real world. eBay Inc. are ready for the numerous buyers with their new technology "Best Match", which is supposed to help in fast products search. The sellers, however, are not thrilled about this new method. President at Budget Video Games Inc. Steve Grossberg, whose annual sales over the Web are about $2 million, does not see a reason for eBay to change the existing search technology, which is, according to him, good enough.
"eBay is trying to use smart logic to tell the buyer what they want to see, rather than let them pick the best matches," he said. With Best Match, which is now offered on eBay Express, the search results are based on historical buyer behavior patterns, relevance and other similar information. The buyers, on the other hand, believe that Best Match is not that bad if it does its job properly.
An anonymous eBay seller said about the Best Natch: "I find that the buying process is becomingly increasingly complicated, to the point that last night I eventually bought a CD from a retail site, but ultimately a fragmented buy process sent me away from eBay." eBay spokesman Hani Durzy, in turn, says Best Match is only for the best, as it will give buyers more choice.
