New Software Will Ease Distant Voting For Soldiers
From now on the US soldiers who are in war zones and distant military bases will be able to vote by means of a new absentee voting software solution. PostX has developed software, which allows soldiers to verify their registration, request absentee ballots, as well as to receive the ballots from mobile phones and computers. For those who will still use the regular mail services for voting, the software will reduce the delays, which used to be up to more than a month.
The US Department of Defense`s (D.O.D.) is provided by the company with the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP), which has a safe automatic Internet service available to military members and civilian workers. 100 different US counties have by now signed up for the service. Carlos "Butch" Pair, Major General, had stated: "We are committed to ensuring that every service member can participate in the election process. In the past few years, deployments and mobility of the military added an additional challenge to service members receiving their absentee ballots. We understand how important this is to every soldier."
The government is encouraged by PostX to let soldiers to send the votes also by e-mail. Even though the security of such voting system was criticized by many, PostX stands behind the software`s security, whose code base was analyzed by Fortify Source Code Analysis.
