Microsoft Under Attack
Microsoft seems to be blocking its competitors` security products, so they have said. McAfee and Symantec, the largest security software sellers, attack Microsoft for applying some changes to its Vista operational system. These changes, according to Microsoft`s rivals, obstruct their products. The root of the argument is the fact that Vista is able to protect its most basic code from cyber attacks, while other companies` software can check for revealing signs of malicious programs.
The software vendors are now starting a PR campaign against Microsoft, claiming it`s acting against them. As Vista is going to be available for business customers soon, a Web survey of 672 business technology managers was thrown last month. The survey showed that almost 90% mentioned Vista`s security features as a motivation to upgrade.
Since the antivirus and the anti-spyware are packed into Windows, the access to Symantec`s, McAfee`s and other software companies` software will be blocked as soon as Vista enters the market. A Symantec spokesman said that Microsoft "is putting the core of the operating system in a lock box". Security software companies are also asking Microsoft to make the uninstall of Windows Security Center easier for the users, as it is very complicated right now.
