MySpace For Older Generation
MySpace, so it seems, was mistakenly thought of as the youth`s site. According to a recent study, more than 50% of the site`s visitors are over 35 years old. MySpace has grown drastically in the past year, and the type of the visitors has changed during this period. Kids and teens (12 ? 17 years old) were 25% of the users a year ago, while now their number has decreased to only 12% of all the visitors of the site. And the amount of the older users has increased ? to almost 52%.
ComScore analyst Andrew Lipsman said that "the shift in demographics reflects the "mainstream effect,". The site is gaining popularity in general, so it is no surprise that there are more and more people of different age groups. "It`s really a broadening of the user base, rather than one user base supplanting the other," Lipsman said.
MySpace`s image is impaled by the site`s demographics as a socializing place for the young people, where they can share music and video files. The site operators were pressured to apply high security in order to protect minors from sexual abuse online. That is probably the result of the site`s popularity among young people. According to ComScore, MySpace is the biggest of all the social networks and has around 55.8 million visitors.
