Google`s Applications For Your Own Site
Google has stated that it is bringing useful features to users and now it will be very easy to add miniature programs to Internet sites. Google`s competitors, Apple, Microsoft and Yahoo, have similar services, where users have to install software on their computers. The new Google Gadgets, which the users could add before to their personalized Google homepage, can now be added to the user`s personal website.
Forrester Research analyst Charlene Li commented: "Instead of making people come to Google, now Google can be found everywhere". There is a gallery which includes over 1,200 "Google Gadgets", small code bits that are used as active applications when they are installed on a Web page. Most of the applications are built by external programmers, and not by Google. The Gadgets vary from Google Calendar to independent applications such as financial information, sports, communication tools, games and horoscopes.
Now, instead of forcing users to rely on desktop software, the Web is turning into a platform. The name that Google called the service is "Universal Gadgets", so it will be easy to differentiate them from the already existing "Desktop Gadgets" that run only on Google sites or on a user`s own computer desktop. Google Gadgets architect Adam Sah said: "Gadgets are nothing more than HTML and a little bit of Javascript. Gadgets are easy to create so it`s something (programmers) can do in their spare time."
