Put The Screen In Your Pocket!
A new screen for laptops has being developed by scientists at England`s University of Cambridge. The screen can be rolled up like a newspaper, which makes it is very easy to carry. The screen is made of a variety of firm materials that can change their shape without losing their strength or functionality. The materials were created by Keith Seffen, a lecturer in the engineering department of the Cambridge University.
The model is a flexible computer screen, which is also very thin, that can be rolled into a tube and placed in a pocket or a briefcase. The metal of which the screen is made can be folded without the use of locking mechanisms of any kind. According to the researchers, the material has "sense memory" - something that makes it able to be folded in the same way plenty of times without losing its structural reliability. The structures used for the display can be also used to construct a matching "foldable" keyboard, the researchers say.
According to Seffen, the creation could cover the way for the world`s first really portable computers. The materials can be also used in many other different fields, such as aerospace engineering, for example. The researchers` hard work is being supported by Cambridge Display Technology, a U.K. developer of polymer light-emitting diodes screens.
