Digital Music Industry Forum Discusses Future

The music industry is changing constantly, trying to adjust itself to the public`s needs, and nothing has been supporting this change as much as the digital era we are living in for the past few years. The recent Digital Music Forum in Hollywood has shown that most of the music world executives agree on that. The predictions are, as the radio is changing from music to talking, that the CDs will no longer be used as much they are today. That was said by Yahoo Music`s vice president and general manager Dave Goldberg.

He said: "Slowly, music on radio is disappearing into talk, a trend we`ve seen for the past two years. In 10 years it will be clear, when we get through the messy part, what the business model looks like." Sony`s executive said that subscribed music should be able to be listened not only at home, but also in the car and on the cell phone. Sony is planning to make it appealing for consumers to pay for digital music, as it would be available for them anytime anywhere.

DRM (Digital Rights Management), therefore, seems like the best solution that will promote interoperability, which is unavoidable. The digital music world should not be limited by just one company business model, said eMusic CEO. The question is, of course, whether it is possible.
