Now, we learn that Chinese authorities not only block undesired content from the net, but take legal action against people who distribute it. A 28-year-old who ran one of China`s most popular pornographic communities was sentenced and jailed last week.
The Chinese authorities decided to send the man to jail for life for his online crimes, as pornography is forbidden in China. The site had more than 600,000 active members and was highly popular throughout the country. Other people connected to the site were sentence to prison terms up to 10 years. Most people involved with the online site were merely 23 years of age and were running the site since 2004.
Not only that the site was offering pornographic materials, but members had to pay for the online service. 25 to 33 dollars would get you in as a registered member, and grant you access to the site`s content. The site was closed down by Chinese authorities in October of last year, but only last week was the process concluded and sentences were handed. Investigation showed that most of the revenue was generated by advertisements. The site featured advertising spaces and sold them for the higher bidder.
