Parents Worried about Internet Content

Parents around the globe are concerned that their children are being exposed to highly unsuitable content on the internet and that nothing is being done to control it. Specifically, parents are up in arms against the number of obscene videos circulating the internet and are calling for the establishment of a body that censors the internet to protect children from this type of exposure.

These strong reactions come after several videos were discovered on the net, recently, which were freely available for public consumption. These videos included a free sex tape of hotel heiress and socialite, Paris Hilton, and, more recently sex tapes starring pop star icon, Britney Spears and Iranian actress Zahra Amir Ebrahimi. Minors have no problem accessing sites that offer these tapes and are able to view them within minutes. Some teens, armed with top-of-the-range cell phones, are even able to download them to their phones for instant viewing.

Parents say that there is an urgent need to establish a controlling board to counter the amount of sleaze and obscene pornographic content on the internet. At the very least, cell phone companies should monitor the material that is being downloaded onto their equipment. The problem is that the world wide web is so huge ? with over 100 million official sites operating these days ? that it seems highly unlikely that anything could be done to restrict its operations.
