HBO to Open New Online Broadcasting Channel Under AOL

In an effort to rival the video content revolution that sweeps the net, pay cable TV network HBO will launch an online TV channel that features original programming. The site will air in the beginning of 2007 as a part of HBO`s partnership with AOL. Internet users are constantly looking for video content to consume, either by community sites such as YouTube, or by downloading illegal content. HBO will try and ride the new trend of online video consumption and offer views original quality broadcasting through the web.

HBO regards the new channel as a breeding group for new programs. The network will be able to reach new audiences and to experiment with concept ideas freely. Although some cable affiliates might feel unpleasant with HBO`s material available online, the network believes this is the right way to go. The new channel is going to replace the existing AOL Comedy Channel, and will be comedy oriented as well.

AOL and HBO are both part of the media conglomerate Warner Bros. AOL will handle all advertisement affairs of the new channel while HBO handles the creative aspect and the actual video content. This is the first time that advertisers can use the HBO brand as a promotional device, as the private network does not air commercials on their channels. The online community will earn quality video content, and it seems that HBO is making the first steps in creating a new platform that reflects the way we will all consume our video content in the future.
