YouTube and NHL Sign New Agreement
YouTube, one of the leading online video content providers, said on several occasions that revolutionizing the way people consume video content is one of their goals. The company announced that a special agreement was signed with the National Hockey League that promotes that very agenda. This is the first agreement that YouTube is forming with a professional sports league, and more will probably follow. Under the new agreement, YouTube users will be able to watch a daily short-clip video from the NHL that covers the 2006-2007 season.
Instead of turning into their TVs for a summary of the day`s events, users can now go online and consume their video content right off the web. YouTube was bought by search engine giant Google for $1.65 billion and it seems that the new and powerful YouTube is starting to move its vision forward. Currently, there are hundreds of NHL clips on YouTube`s site which were uploaded by users. The fact that users upload copyrighted material to the site is one of YouTube`s biggest threats, and the company is constantly trying to find a solution that will work for both media companies and home consumers.
YouTube already signed several agreements with TV broadcast networks such as Warner Bros., CBS, and more. YouTube is the world`s largest video community and by offering relevant video feeds it will make its presence even stronger. The site enjoys nearly 100 million daily views, and growing.
