High Learning Goes Online For Many Students

Unlike common belief, online learning is getting stronger and more popular. About 3.2 million people, roughly one sixth of the students that enrolled in higher education, participate in at least one online course during the last fall. Online learning is becoming more popular, and the common belief of the platform slowly disappearing is far from the truth, as a new report shows. The new study was conducted and released by a group of colleges seeking online programs, called The Sloan Consortium.

The new report shows an incredibly increase of more than 40 percent in relation to the number of students taking online courses during fall of 2005. "It`s higher in absolute numbers and higher in percentages than anything we`ve measured before. And it`s across the board," said Sloan`s CIO, Jeff Seaman. Many high education institutes are investing in online learning and hoping that the new platform will prove wise economically compared to regular classes.

Looking at the numbers, the report shows that about 80 percent of the participants in online learning courses are undergraduate students that are comparatively older. People taking online courses are also ones that work during their studies, and have families to take care off. Online learning is a great solution for people with tight schedules that cannot free their entire week for school. The rest of the people that learn online, are students that take individual courses, or combining their campus courses with online ones. The latter are increasingly growing, and more people find the mixture more beneficial for them.
