Sony to Offer World Lightest Notebook
The world`s lightest notebook is heading our way! Japanese giant Sony Corp. announced last Wednesday that a new highly-light portable personal computer is going to hit shelves in Japan starting December. Sony is not pleased with its market share among business users and hopes that the new notebook will help promote their brand among non home-users. The new computer is part of Sony`s acclaimed Vaio series, and will be titled as "type G".
Sony`s new baby carries a 12.1-ince LCD screen display, and will weigh 898 grams alone ? making it the lightest notebook available to date. The basic model will have 12.5 of battery hours and will sell for about $1,880. Although this product will catch the eye of many portable business men, Sony does not plan to offer the Vaio type G anywhere else but in Japan. The market share that belongs to the Sony brand is not pleasing the Corporation, and their current objective is to change that.
Currently, Sony caters for less than 10 percent of the portable business market in Japan. The company did not say what are the selling objectives of the new Vaio, but they indicated that a 30 percent market hold is what their aiming for. Sony plan to reach their target before March 2010, and with the growing demand for portable ?and mostly light weighted- machines, they are on the right track, that`s for sure.
