New Windows Media Player Released by Microsoft
The world?s leading producer and manufacturer of software, Microsoft, released the new Windows Media Player 11, the most current version of its popular software which enables users to view music and video along with other media files. The new version, which offers an improved user interface which is specifically designed to function with the MTV Urge online music portal. This portal offers customers some 2 million songs from more than 110,000 musical artists. Webmasters will also be happy to learn that the new media player is now available.
Microsoft is hoping to become major competition for Apple Computers and its iTunes Store. Because iTunes are growing more and more popular among online users, and is a dominant market share in the online media download space by joining forces with MTV Urge, it has received a great deal of exposure. Media Player usually charges 99 cents for single songs and US 9.99 dollars for complete albums, which is about the same amount that Apple charges via its iTunes Store. However, MTV?s service offers its customers a monthly subscription plan that enables them to pay US 9.95 dollars a month for unlimited downloads, which is not offered by Apple.
Microsoft is better positioned than many other competitors to actually give Apple a run for its money due in part to the fact that the majority of PC users in the world have Windows Media Player installed on their machines. In addition, the software will play Urge content - a feat not yet successfully achieved by any such rival. Webmasters and online users alike will be flocking to get this new addition to the Microsoft platform.
