MySpace will now use Audio Fingerprinting
MySpace, the popular social network on the Internet, where people and webmasters all over the world share their personal profiles as well as their favorite music, has recently announced that it has licensed technology that will assist it in preventing unauthorized copyrighted music from being posted to MySpace users? pages. The new audio fingerprinting technology, offered from Gracenote, will enable MySpace to block unauthorized copyrighted music recordings from passing through and eventually being posted.
In addition, MySpace will review all music audio recordings uploaded by community members to their profiles, and will also identify that which is copyrighted, and will block the uploading of such music. MySpace users and webmasters alike will now have to be careful about the music they are posting on their sites. They may have a favorite that won?t pass the authorization process.
MP3s and the sharing of these music files all over the world from computer to computer has long been a major problem for musical artists to contend with in regards to the copyrighting rights of their music. It is very difficult to stop the sharing, downloading, and uploading of MP3s among Internet users, but more and more sites are trying to combat this phenomenon by charging small change per song for users. It seems that MySpace is doing its part against MP3 piracy. How this will affect the popularity and use of MySpace remains to be seen/
