MTV Launches New URGE Service

Although MTV consider themselves the torch carriers of the global music revolution, the music network has remained quite while computer giant Apple took over the online music world. Apple and its iTunes service ignited flames creating a fire that spreads through cyberspace like it would through a fallow land. Now, MTV has decided to sail into unexplored seas and to ride on top of the online music frenzy waves.

MTV launched its new service called URGE this week. The new service brings the newest version of Microsoft`s Windows Media Player and will feature more than 2 million tracks on its debut. Tracks can be purchased at $.99 cents each or as complete albums starting at $9.95. URGE also allows users to enjoy an unlimited number of download at a monthly rate. There are two monthly packages. One goes for $9.95 and the other of $14.95 giving the user that ability to transfer songs to any of more than 100 compatible portable music players.

The new MTV service will also feature streaming videos, and in the near future URGE will also have video content for download. MTV has a large selection of exclusive performances that will be available only on the URGE service. Shows such as "TRL" and "MTV Unplugged" will be used as a competitive edge against all other online music services.
