Survey on Internet Working Habits Published

Websense Inc has sponsored a telephone-based survey to look into Internet work habits of the American public. It`s well known that most people that have an Internet connection available at work as using it for more than work related tasks, and most of them use their Internet connection to perform some personal web surfing while on the job.

The survey asked people whether they are willing to give up their morning coffee in order to keep the current Internet arrangement, and half of the people said `yes`. The survey shows that 61 percent of employees with Internet access have spent some time accessing personal sites. 25 percent watched or listened to streaming music for at least once during the week, and 18 percent have downloaded non-music material while working.

The most visited sites are maps, news and weather sites. It`s much more comfortable to check for online updates while working than wait for the end of the day and for the time you get home. The survey shows that 3.1 hours a week are spent on personal surfing compared to 12.8 hours that are spent on work-related Internet use. The survey included 500 employees. All employees are adults working at companies with at least 100 employees that have Internet access on the job.
