Researchers Discover Flaw in Symantec Security Software
Researchers say that Symantec, the world leader in antivirus and other malicious software protection provider, has a flaw in their highly acclaimed security software that enables hackers to exploit Symantec`s software and take control of clients` computer using the internet. Symantec hasn`t confirmed the vulnerability yet, but if it does the outcome might be severe.
There are more than 200 million Internet users that are using Symantec`s security software and because there`s no action needed by the victims of such attack ? many people will be exposed to the threat. A spokesman, Mike Bradshaw, said the company was examining the reported flaw but described it as "so new that we don`t have any details." Evidence of the flaw was supplied to Symantec`s engineers by eEye Digital Security, the researchers that discovered the vulnerability.
eEye`s chief hacking officer, Marc Maiffret also demonstrated the flaw in Symantec`s security to The Associated Press. eEye reports that the flaw does not concern consumer versions of Symantec`s software that are sold at retail and outlets, and that only corporate editions might be affected. Conformation from Symantec is still absent, hopefully once Symantec engineers finish reviewing eEye`s material they will have a solution for the new situation.
