Music Services Become Personal
After the online music community was swept by online services like iTunes and its rivals, it`s time for the new thing in online music consumption. New technology is being used to help you choose music that you`ll like. Pandora and Last.fm decided to take a different approach them all other online services and offer you wizards that help you find the music you like.
By choosing songs you like, the online service will choose songs that are similar in taste and will let you listen to them. You can choose which one of the songs you really like and your choices and the results are constantly being refined. That way the online music service is able to determine your musical taste and guide you with future purchases.
The concept is known as collaborative filtering, and it often shows up on Web sites like Amazon that offer recommendations stating that "customers who liked X also liked Y." Pandora and Last.fm are clearly not the only services that offer such selection and we will soon meet such features in many other online services. Our web will become more personal and will give us a better feeling of `being home`.
