Microsoft Wants Its Own iPod
Apple`s iPod is the most popular mobile audio device in the world. The iPod revolutionized the way we look at portable audio consumption, and Apple`s business success has skyrocketed. Many people know Apple only thanks to its popular portable media device. Now another computer giant wants to make some profit off this market segment, with rumors saying that Microsoft is developing a music and video device to compete head-to-head with Apple`s ipod.
According to sources, Robbie Bach is heading the new project. Bach was leading the team that developed the Xbox and is considered to be one of Microsoft`s top engineers. From the looks of it, Microsoft is already demonstrating the new device to certain elements in the music industry, and licensing discussions are underway.
Microsoft refuses to respond and keeps a tight seal over the entire subject. The market of portable audio and video devices is very crowded and there are many contenders that are fighting over public`s attentions. New technologies and new devices hit the market frequently and it is a very fashion-oriented industry. Apple`s iPod has managed to stay on top of the competition, and Microsoft will have to work very hard to make it big in this Apple-dominated field.
