IBM Brings Full Blown 3D Graphics to Different Audiences

Why is it that only gamers enjoy the benefits on today`s modern graphic engines? IBM thinks that it is time for other audiences to enjoy the fruits of all new developments in the graphics market. Games today bring an unmatched graphic experience and IBM wants to harness that power for other enterprises. Last week the computer giant announced "The Forbidden City: Beyond Space and Time."

The new initiative allows people to log onto an online venue that will take them on a virtual tour of the 800-bulding complex of China`s Forbidden City. IBM is creating a full graphic 3D display of the city that will become available online for everyone to explore. The level of computer graphics that are available for us today enables such creations and IBM wants to show that everything is possible.

The online experience is enhanced by interactive features and by the fact that visitors are able to talk to one another just as if they were really patrolling the Forbidden City itself. IBM`s new enterprise was bored out of a partnership with The Palace Museum in China. "Unlike the real Forbidden City, this will allow you to view different time periods," John Tolva, Program Manager for Cultural Strategy and Programs for IBM, said during an interview Friday. "One of the questions we`re dealing with now is: What happens if you and I are in that space and all of a sudden I jump back 200 years? Will you come with me? There are some real interesting challenges, but they`re the fun kind."
