Gates to Say Goodbye to Microsoft by 2008


The end of an era is exactly the way of putting it, with Bill Gates announcing that he will abandon the daily management of his software giant, Microsoft, by mid 2008. Bill Gates said that he will wants more time to focus on his foundation`s work on global health and education. Microsoft is currently working on rearrangement of their management board with more announcements to be made in the future.

Gates founded Microsoft over 30 years ago and built of the largest personal fortunes in modern history through it. Bill Gates will keep his position as chairman, but will hand over the titled of `chief software architect` to Ray Ozzie. "Bill Gates has always dominated the company`s technical landscape. But Ray Ozzie`s record in the IT industry demands unquestioning respect," said Richard Edwards, senior research analyst at the Butler Group.

The man who will fill Gates` position will have a lot to answer for. Microsoft is heading for a head-to-head clash with another computer giant ? Google. The future of Microsoft will be greatly influenced by the ongoing competition with Google and the person that will head Microsoft will have the Google-Microsoft competition as his first priority. With Microsoft`s new version of their flagship product, Windows, right around the corner the next year will prove crucial.
