Amazon Starts Selling Groceries on Its Site
Next time you enter Amazon for some books and DVDs browsing, don`t be surprised if right next to you favorite DVD you`ll find a carton of milk or some cookies. The Internet`s largest retailer has started selling groceries on its site. Amazon is a symbol of innovation and success, and Amazon`s step seems surprising in light of the fact that online grocery shopping is one of the worst business efforts of recent times.
Currently, the new service is offering only non-perishable goods such as cereal, pasta and canned soup, but as time goes by and popularity grows, Amazon will consider offering more options. Amazon`s groceries shipping is available everywhere and isn`t limited to specific areas like all other online grocers. "Because we only carry products when we can offer great prices and free shipping, we don`t carry everything (yet!)," the company said in a notice on its Web site.
"We try and offer our customers one-destination shopping where they can find everything they need, and groceries are something our customers have been asking for," Amazon spokeswoman Tracy Ogden said. "As with any of our stores, we are always looking to increase our selection."
