AOL Changes the Way Users Consume News on Netscape
Netscape, one of the most popular online news portals, is getting a push from AOL how decided to make users involved in the way they consume online news reports. People using the site will be able to add links to articles that they`ve encountered on other sites and vote for the links that they like the most. That way the articles on the site will reflect what people are looking for in a more accurate way.
Items that receive the most votes will appear on Netscape main page, and other ones will appear in less dominating places. AOL is trying to attract more people to their ad-supported websites as their access-subscription business declines. The new site will be up and running on July 1, so if you find articles that you like ? keep the link for them close by and you`ll be able to post them for the new Netscape portal starting next month.
This is a new approach for online news consumption and because AOL also owns the AOL site, it can use Netscape as an experimenting ground to see if traffic increases. If the new approach boosts traffic on Netscape, we will probably see AOL using the same technique on other sites as well.
