Teenager Charged With Online Harassing School Official

Usually, when we hear about a teenager involved in an online harassment case - the teenager is the one who was harassed. This is not the case of a 14-year-old high school student in Aurora who`s facing harassment charges for allegedly harassing one of his school`s official via MySpace website. The student is alleged to post a threat on his blog at the beginning of the year and was charge with felony harassment.

Dan Ferrelli from Aurora Police Department said that the student was referred to the juvenile court system after being charged with felony harassment through electronic communications. "It`s pretty new to us," said Todd Colvin, assistant superintendent of Oswego Unit School District 308. "It`s something schools are all going to have to be dealing with." Schools are not used to handling such incidents as students using online blogs for illegal activities, and the subject is still under observation.

A different school district in Chicago has decided last month that all student participating in extracurricular activities in Community High School District 128, will have to sign a new special agreement that any evidence of "illegal or inappropriate" behavior posted on the Internet can be held against them as grounds for disciplinary action.
