Music Industry Takes on Video Content Sites

The recording industry`s war against online music piracy is not close to over, and major music labels discovered that they have a completely new war to battle ? the war against online music videos. It is not enough that users are sharing files over peer-to-peer networks, blogs and file sharing sites, they are now sharing online video content, and the music industry does not like that at all.

Sites that encourage user-generated content such as My Space, YouTube, Google Video, and iFilm have revolutionized the way online users consume content and file sharing has become even easier, especially video sharing. The Recoding Industry Association of America has increased its efforts to stop sharing of popular videos on such sites. The problem is that users capture such content from broadcast music television, such as MTV, and than upload it to the sites without any license.

It is hard to press charges against such actions, and the Recording Industry Association is working hard to establish legal ground to stopping such sites. The RIAA has issues cease-and-desist letters to several users on YouTube who are sharing music content. In the wake of the takedowns, users following links to the video are greeted by this notice: "This video has been removed at the request of copyright owner the RIAA because its content was used without permission."
