AOL Servers Glitch Caused Emails Delay

We are so used to using our online services, that even the very small glitch feels as if we are out of control. Millions of AOL, CompuServe, and Netscape customers had that feeling of losing control last Thursday when sending and receiving e-mails became impossible due to problems with their Internet Service Provider. According to Nicolas Graham of AOL Corporation, there was a problem about 11am that cause email traffic to de delayed. "It is not an outage, it is a delay," he said.

The company is serving millions of customers and there are millions of emails queuing up in there servers. Once there`s a problem with communications most emails are `trapped` on the company`s servers and people do not receive their mail. AOL Corporation is currently ruling out any sort of sabotage or hacking, as there is no evidence for neither. Apparently, one of the codes used for routine maintenance was the cause of the problem. "We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience. These events are rare and isolated," he said.

Figures and information regarding the number of users that were affected by the delay weren`t given. AOL said that any AOL user that tried to sign in to any of their e-mail products might have been affected. The problem was resolved in a few hours and AOL services are working as before.
