New Site Offers Market Breaking Prices for Online Music Content

Competition over the online music industry is becoming fierce, with a new and unexpected rival showing up in Russia. The site is offering downloaded music for much less than $1 for each song. These prices are lower than what is currently offered on the market, and the site enjoys huge success, but there`s a catch. According to United States music industry, the new Russian site is working illegally and offering unapproved payment services.

Online music downloading leader, iTunes, is offering it`s content for $.99 per song, but the Russian site offers the same content for 10th of that price. With songs costing from 10 to 16 cents, there`s no wonder the site is highly popular around the world. Although highly popular, the site is under criminal investigation by Russian prosecutors. The site presents itself as a legitimate partner in the online music industry, and by asking for money people associate it with other legal service providers, after all online piracy is often connected with free-download and stealing.

The site has been picked by U.S Trade Representatives Office as an example of Russian`s inability to stop online piracy. Russia is currently negotiation to join the World Trade Organization, and this pirate site presents a direct obstacle for Russia`s plans. The country is already the second-biggest source of pirate online content, after China.
