Californian Court Recognize Online Journalists as All Other
Online bloggers and the Internet as a form of media have gotten an official approval seal from the 6th District Court of Appeal. In a ruling regarding Apple`s case against Internet bloggers, Judges said that bloggers who are writing journalism material are entitled for the same protections such as all other journalist, and that they are not obligated to reveal their sources.
Justice Conrad Rushing said, "In no relevant respect do they appear to differ from a reporter or editor for a traditional business-oriented periodical who solicits or otherwise comes into possession of confidential internal information about a company. We decline the implicit invitation to embroil ourselves in questions of what constitutes `legitimate journalism," he wrote. "The shield law is intended to protect the gathering and dissemination of news, and that is what petitioners did here."
Giving online journalists the same legal standing as all other journalists is a great step for online media. Online bloggers, or any other online user who conducts in journalism writing is protected by the same laws that protect any journalist. Hopefully this will set a new standard in online journalism and the online media will develop accordingly. There are many online writes, and now that they realize that they will be protected like all other journalisms, more stories and more journalism work will be published.
