High-Tech Economy is Not Really Recovering
The high-tech economy these days seems to be in recovery. The companies say sometimes it even takes quite a time to find available skillful workers. But is the situation really that good? Turns out it isn`t. The Bureau of Labor Statistics` latest national employment figures show that much fewer jobs added in the past couple of months than economists or business leaders had expected.
Since March 2001, when the tech recession started, the sector had lost more than 400,000 jobs. Although the recession "officially" ended in November 2001, for thousands of US workers who couldn`t find a job long after it, the recovery was not a full one. But at the national level a slight recovery is starting to take place in Seattle and Washington, D.C, however in Los Angeles, Dallas, Chicago and Boston the IT employment is decreasing all the time.
The government plays an important role in the IT world problem, by encouraging the companies to move jobs overseas and to hire foreign workers at a much lower cost. It is high time for industry and government leaders to take responsibility for their actions and try to help improve our economy.
