US Leads in Sex Abuse Internet Pictures

The Internet Watch Foundation has recently released a report, according to which half of Internet images that show sexual abuse of children are from the United States. Moreover, the majority of the images can be seen many years after they have been posted.

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) has also found that in the UK the number of such pictures decreased considerably in the past decade, probably because of the public awareness and reporting, that have increased. Internet service providers and search engines blocking access, as well as U.K. government and police support, have also added to the improvement of the situation.

The report also showed that U.S. free hosting systems and Japanese message boards are continuing to increase the amount of images of children being sexually abused. The biggest popularity among those posting these pictures and videos gained the online photo album services, which made it much easier for the criminals to act. The public can report anonymously on the IWF`s hotline about any sexual abuse images seen on the Web, as well as material that could cause racial hatred.
