To Navigate an Image with Just a Hand Touch

Just like in the science fiction novels, soon it will be possible to navigate computer images by simply using a touch of a hand. Microsoft research labs have found a way to change the point-of-view of an image just by a hand touch. Nevertheless, the technology is not going to be developed by Microsoft itself develop the technology itself, but is instead licensing the technology, known as TouchLight, to a start-up company, Eon Reality, an Irvine, California.

The company will use this technology in its existing interactive products for the auto, commercial, aerospace and defense industries. Eon`s recent products offer 3D displays, but don`t let users to interact via touch.

With TouchLight users can use their hands to, for instance, lean the image to the side. The idea is similar to one in science fiction novels and movies, for example, the film "Minority Report", where Tom Cruise`s character prevents crime by pulling up information on a glass screen by simply waving his hands. But unlike in the film, people will not need to use any special equipment. According to Eon Reality, the technology will be used on home PCs in two or three years.
