Mozilla Writes Your Name in a Firefox Code

The Mozilla Foundation is celebrating three years since its creation in July 2003. To celebrate the third birthday, the open-source group declared that if a Firefox user convinces one of his/her friends to download the browser before September 15, the names of both the user and the friend will be added to the source code of the next version of the browser, Firefox 2.0

Firefox, Mozilla`s premier Web browser, was launched in November 2004 and since then has steadily gained market share. According to recent statistics, Firefox has a global usage share of 12.93 percent, and Microsoft`s Internet Explorer`s share has dropped to 83.05 percent of the market since the Firefox appeared. Firefox can work with Windows, Mac OS X, Linux and supports many different languages.

The Firefox project was at first meant to be an experimental branch of the Mozilla project. Its` creators believed that the commercial requirements of Netscape`s sponsorship and developer-driven feature creep compromised the utility of the Mozilla browser. They created a pared-down browser, with which they intended to replace the Mozilla Suite. The Mozilla Suite is not produced anymore since April 2006. Instead, the Mozilla community still releases new versions of the suite using the product name SeaMonkey to avoid any possible confusion with the original Mozilla Suite, released by Mozilla Foundation.
