Yahoo Encourages Its Users to Advertise
The popular Internet portal Yahoo wants its consumers to make advertisements. That is in addition to blogs and photo pages with text and pictures that Yahoo wanted them to create before. Since Monday, Yahoo`s front page has a new look asking people to take the video camera, open up the editing software and create 12-second commercials for Yahoo.
The commercials will not be rewarded in any way, but Yahoo hopes it enthusiastic customers will do a great work. The ads will be shown at the Yahoo website. Yahoo Vice President Allen Olivo says that this kind of advertising is just another way to make customers talk about the site. "Any advertiser or business that isn`t maximizing the power of what users have to say is crazy," he says. "The brand belongs to the customer. Who better to express what we`re all about than them?"
There are companies who already have experimented with user-generated ads. Earlier this year, people were asked by to take scraps of video footage and pictures on its website to create ads for an SUV. Let us hope that Yahoo`s users will put an effort and cooperate.
