Movies Can Now be Transferred to DVDs

Very soon, with the help of Movielink, a company that distributes movies over the Internet, it will be possible to transfer films that were downloaded from the Web to DVDs. The firm bought technology from Sonic Solutions (a software company). This technology allows customers to transfer the movies into DVDs.

Until now it was not permitted to copy movies to DVD, because of the Hollywood studios demand. They were afraid that illegal copies will be made by pirates and so requested that movies would be protected by strict digital rights management software (DRM). Because of this the customers had to watch the movies on their PCs, which caused a problem. According to a statement from Sonic Solutions, they will provide DVD-burning software that comes equipped with DRM protection, which would prevent the making of a large number of copies.

It is still unclear when exactly will Movielink launch the new service. The company did not say whether the studios had signed off on allowing their films to be burned to DVD. Jim Ramo, Movielink`s CEO, said in a statement: "We are anticipating an industry resolution to establish rules for converting secure Internet-delivered Movielink downloads into a secure format compatible with DVD players".
