Japan Aims For a Network Society by 2010
New report issued by the Japanese government says that Japan must work to improve internet access and other mobile network systems in Japan to answer for their aging and shrinking population. The paper, called The Information and Communications White Paper, was approved in a Cabinet meeting that called for further efforts to build a "ubiquitous" network society. Japan is looking for a better use of the internet and hoping that a technologically solution will benefit its society.
Japan`s plans are to become the world`s most advanced networking society by 2010. The objective is to incorporate the internet in all aspects of life including from work places up to the entire society. Improving the technological strengths of the country and integrating broadband capabilities such as video conferencing and the option of working from home ? will benefit Japan`s citizens greatly.
The report also indicated that there`s a huge different between Japan`s age groups when it comes to internet usage. Although 90 percent of people aged between 13 and 49 use the internet, only 50 percent of people above 49 use it. Japan`s population is getting older and smaller and the government is concerned that age will affect the effectiveness of its working citizens and that internet and technology usage will decrease.
