File Sharing Is Still on the Rise
In spite of increasing efforts by music companies to stop online file sharing, the number of people that are sharing files online has nothing but increased. Last year when the U.S Supreme Court reopened the door for lawsuits over programs used to share copyrighted content, it seemed that the entertainment industry had succeeded in stopping online piracy. However, the truth is far from that.
The new act that holds software developers liable of illegal use of their software has damaged the entertainment industry`s objectives. The new legal online music services that were suppose to fight online piracy did not gain much support. Investors did not want to put money into such enterprises because of the new act.
People who are looking for certain online content still turn to Peer-to-Peer networks that allow people to share files online, and consume entertainment illegally. The entertainment industry needs to promote better services that take advantage of the internet in a positive way in order to offer users a better alternative for file sharing. If such an alternative does not exist, then people will never stop sharing files online.
