Chinese Police Crack Down on Online Gambling

The question of online gambling legitimacy has not been answered yet by many countries, but China has a clear-cut answer for it ? `no`. Police in the southwestern province of Sichuan have brought down an online soccer gambling ring worth at an estimated 1 billion Yuan, which are $125 million. Gambling as a concept is illegal in China ever since 1949 when the Communists party took over, and gambling using the internet is regarded in the same manner.

The online site that was brought down had more than 2000 registered users from across China and offered all of them online gambling features. The site took advantage of World Cup fever and offered soccer betting using the internet.

This is not the first time that China`s Police take action against online operators that are running gambling. On June 22, Police arrested more than 20 suspects that were involved with the syndicate, and back in 2004 Chinese authorities broke up an online betting operation in Fujian province that was estimated to make $1.7 billion in one month.
