Microsoft Postpones Office 2007
People looking forward to the next version of Microsoft`s flagship product ? Office, will have to wait a bit longer as the company announced. Microsoft Office 2007`s launch was postponed after several unexpected issues were discovered during beta testing. "Based on internal testing and Beta 2 feedback around product performance, we are revising our development schedule to deliver the 2007 Microsoft Office system by the end of year 2006, with broad general availability in early 2007," the company said in a statement.
"With a project this big, a launch delay can be expected, but this is somewhat surprising given how firm they were in March about the October shipping date," he said. This is not a real setback for Microsoft. The company is working on delivering the next stage of computer software technology in all fronts. Microsoft`s new operation system, Windows Vista, will launch starting 2007 and almost all of Microsoft`s products will get new versions and updates.
Delivering a new product presents a Catch 22 situation for companies. Forrester Research`s Kyle McNabb elaborates "If they release something too soon, without adequate testing, they may have to issue a service pack that could present an annoyance for users," he said. "On the other hand, repeated delays don`t do much in building confidence among their customers."
