All-in-One Mobile Device on the Horizon

In this day and age it seems that the handheld devices we use are not only getting smaller but also more concise. An all-in-one hand-held device is sure to be coming soon, which will enable everything from making phone calls to recording DVD quality footage. Cellular technology is booming all over the world and one company has a vision for what is next to arrive at your local cellular provider. Hantro?s vision sees the mobile phone becoming the ubiquitous multimedia device with high resolution camcorder functionality, wireless up-streaming of DVD quality video to your PC or TV screen and the ability to purchase and enjoy content with an immediacy that has never before been realized.

Turning this vision into reality, Hantro announced today that they will be demonstrating the technology that makes it possible on their booth at 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona. Taking centre stage on the booth will be Hantro?s DVB-H CBMS compliant Mobile TV handset solution. Supporting H.264/AVC video and enhanced aacPlus (HE AAC v.2) audio, the modular architecture of the application allows for simple integration of third-party Electronic Service Guides and additional codec support such as Hantro?s VC-1 decoder (codecs can be either software or hardware accelerated blocks).

By isolating the core logic with thin wrapper layers the design also makes porting to device and operating systems quick and easy. In addition to Mobile TV, visitors to the booth will also be able to see the performance benefits of hardware accelerated video coding as well as camcorder, streamer and player applications supporting MPEG-4, H.263, H.264/AVC and VC-1 video formats and AMR and aacPlus audio. It seems that soon one device will do it all, keep a look out for the latest in mobile technologies.
