Microsoft`s Vista: Not Perfect

Computer security companies and programmers have found substantial in Microsoft`s newest operating system, Vista. Determina, a silicone valley based computer securaty company, discovered 6 faults in the program over the weekend, including a serious error in Microsoft`s new internet browser Explorer 7. The faults in Explorer allow information theft including the users passwords, but more importantly the program allows users using an infected website to be inflicted by malicious software. Executives in Determina, which sells antivirus and other software, say that due to the fault discovered a potential attacker could infect a computer using Vista quite easily.

Determina is a member of a small industry that continuously checks technical details in operating systems and other software in order to find problems. Once a bug is found in a Microsoft program, they report it and Microsoft corrects it and distributes a patch, which corrects the error in computers that have already installed the program. Microsoft equipped its new operating system with a technology that allows the operating system to correct errors and download patches through the internet. Despite Microsoft`s announcements that the new operating is safer and more stable than its older operating systems, many people in the industry are still reluctant to make the switch. Microsoft`s earlier operating system Window`s XP, required 2 service packs to improve the products security and new problems are still being discovered.

On Friday, a Microsoft executive published a statement saying that the company is servaying the errors found in the operating system on the company`s website. Microsoft has spent millions of dollars to market Vista as its safest and most secure operating system yet, and if more security problems are discovered it seems that Microsoft will have to invest more money and effort.
