Look Out Google Wiki-Search Engine on its Way

Jimmy Wales, founder of the immensely popular internet encyclopedia, Wikipedia, announced his plans to launch a search engine together with Amazon.com. The British Times reported. The paper says, Wales hopes that the cooperation with Amazon will lead to a search engine that will compete with the internet search leaders, Yahoo and Google.

The search engine will be called Wikiasari, which is a compound word combining the Hawaiian word Wiki, meaning fast, with the Japanese word asari, meaning thorough search. The search engine is expected to be launched in the first quarter of 2007, and will be funded by advertisement. Wales says that as Google becomes increasingly popular, more and more flaws are discovered in its search pages. The biggest problem with internet searches is the filtering of unrelated pages. Google`s claim to fame is the use of number of links to a certain page as a dominant factor for rating results. Information scientists agree that no process for the filtering of results that can compete with that of human mind has been invented.

Wales said: "Google is very good at many types of search, but in many instances it produces nothing but spam and useless crap. Try searching for the term `Tampa hotels`, for example, and you will not get any useful results." Wales says people have a far better ability than an algorithm to decide wither a website is good, and in a short time too. The basic engine of Wikiasari will run on the information in Wikipedia, in which the information is entered by volunteers around the world.
