Live Search Losing Market Share Again

Microsoft hold over the online search market is deteriorating. A monthly study shows that Microsoft`s share of the online search market was 8.2 percent during November, while a month back, 12 percent of the people were searching using Microsoft`s Live Search engine. Google`s share of the market remains strong with a 31 percent growth, and Yahoo follows with a 27 percent growth. Google is currently holding 49.5 percent of the American search market, as the study shows.

Microsoft`s search product is constantly losing market share, but the company is now worried as most of Microsoft`s efforts during the past year was to bring Live Search out of the beta stage and into the final version. With the launch of Microsoft`s new operating system, Windows Vista, the company hopes that people will start using Live Search again. Microsoft will launch a broad marketing campaign and form strategic partnerships that will boost Live Search`s ratings by many folds, but that is the next step, once the product is fully operational.

Google has generated billions of dollars by selling text based advertisement through its search platform, and Microsoft is planning to use a similar business model. Although, Microsoft joined the game late ?offering its Adcenter in May-, introducing text based marketing solutions using Live Search will help the product gain popularity. By offering marketing options, and making Live Search more relevant, the company believes that more people will turn to its search engine for solutions.
