Boston Cardinals Go Online
What works for the Queen of England, will work for the rest of the population, apparently. After Queen Elizabeth II`s announced that her Christmas speech will be broadcasted on the internet as a podcast, news come from Boston where Cardinal O`Malley decided to use the internet as a platform to spread the message of the 2,000-year-old church. With so many people using iPods and other personal media players around the world, it is only logical to use the `new` platform to reach the younger audience of the church.
The Cardinal already operates his own blog where he discusses issues that relate to his work as a Cardinal. Now he plans to take another step forward and offer his message in video form. The Cardinal will broadcast his podcast on Christmas eve and will issue a holiday greeting in several languages. Starting for that point, the Cardinal plans to issue downloadable podcasts as well. After a pedophile priest scandal that erupted in 2002, the image of The Archdiocese of Boston was damaged. Now, they are looking to communicate with the younger people again and to reach them through a platform that they relate to.
Among there efforts are a new website that connects some 800 priests together, and a new online station called iCatholic that will feature podcasts, video-on-demand, and other online attractions. With more people using the internet everyday, it seems reasonable that the catholic church will use it as means of communicating with the people. Being the first Cardinal to operate a blog, O`Malley seems the right person for the job.
