MySpace Tops Yahoo`s Web Traffic for First Time

For the first time since its launch, MySpace had more monthly visitors then Yahoo. Records show that during the month of November, there were 38.7 billion visits to the social networking site, while Yahoo enjoyed a `mere` 38.1 billion visitors. The figures are refereeing to returning visits, and do not reflect unique ones. Yahoo is considered to be the most popular site on the internet, and with MySpace`s passing it for the first time, we might witness an important change in web traffic.

Social network site are offering a completely different user experience of the visitor, and encourage them to stay, re-visit, and bring friends to the site. Such sites, with MySpace leading the online revolution, has grown in popularity over the past year, and these figures show to what extant. Yahoo has announced a complete makeover, and in-company changes, and the market is clearly demonstrating why Yahoo needs does changes fast.

Although the numbers speak for themselves, this is what Yahoo`s representative had to say: "Yahoo continues to be the overall Web audience leader with the largest number of unique users and most time spent online. The page view change in November is related to the use of Ajax and other Web 2.0 technologies across the Yahoo network." Yahoo`s site is working with Ajax technology that might not reflect the real number of revisiting users. All in all, this is not looking good for Yahoo, and it is clear that MySpace is constantly biting into Yahoo`s market share.
