Vodka Maker Snatches Vodka URL for $3M

Vodka is known as the official Russian alcohol beverage, but now not only the drink is Russian, but the Vodka dot com URL is. Russia`s biggest vodka maker has purchased the online address for $3 million as part of the company`s afford to expand their business to the American market. Conglomerate Russian Standard bought the URL from an undisclosed seller at the beginning of December, and browsing to the Vodka dot com URL in the near future will leave at the company`s promotional site.

Using URLs as a marketing tool, especially when targeting the American market, is a common thing in today`s business world. When people think of the vodka product, they will do one of two things. Either type vodka in their browser`s URL line and by doing so they will reach the company`s site, or search for the keyword Vodka in one of the big search engines, in this case there`s a very high probability that they will end-up in the vodka dot com site as well. By buying a certain URL, advertisers are certain that people looking for their product will reach them, and not the competition.

Vodka dot com is among the highest priced URLs in the world, and that`s probably why no one company bought it until now. Another overly priced domain was the diamond dot com URL that went for $7.5 million. Business dot com sold for $7.5 million back in 1999, and would probably go for a lot more if the deal went though these days.
