Firefox Gains Additional Market Share

A new study on people`s online habits shows that more people are using Mozilla`s web browser, Firefox. Internet Explorer`s alternative started to gain market share in recent years following a series of security breaches in Microsoft`s software. Although IE has a clear dominance over the browsers market, Firefox is slowly, but surely, making progress. The study shows that on a typical weekday, 11 percent of the American market is using Firefox.

Looking at previous testing, one can see that Firefox is slowly attracting more people. On December, Firefox`s market share was 10.7, and seven weeks earlier that figure was 9.84. True, not a drastic change, but when almost all of the world`s computers have Internet Explorer already installed on their system, the growth is impressive. Firefox`s usage is usually even higher during weekends, as most businesses use the already available IE, as part of their Microsoft`s business packed. When more home users are online, Firefox`s presence is higher as well.

Although, Firefox`s biggest advantage over Microsoft`s browser was its claim of security, a recent breach was found in the new Firefox version, showing that online security is something that all browsers are having troubles dealing with. Firefox is currently available in version 2.0, while Microsoft recently released its Internet Explorer in version 7. With Microsoft`s new version of Windows rounding the corner, the above figures might change again, and turn in IE might regain a significant market share, as people move to the new OS, and use its built-in IE.
