Battery Trouble with Mobile Connectivity on Vista

In an inside company blog, Microsoft issued a warning for Windows Vista users that access the web using Wi-Fi technology. Apparently, some wireless access points are not yet configured to work with Windows Vista`s special Wi-Fi power-saving protocols, something that causes laptops to run out of battery pretty fast. People using the Wi-Fi option on Vista-running laptops surely found themselves with no battery sooner than they expected.

The post was released on Microsoft`s official Vista blog, where the company is communicating with new Vista users. Windows Vista for businesses was released just recently, and a `learning curve` will surely be presented as people report issues with the new software. The market is not yet ready for Vista, hardware-wise, and until drivers and protocols are updated, you can expect a few glitches here and there. The specific reason was mentioned in the post as "?the root cause of the problem is access point or router hardware which is not compatible with the 802.11 power save protocol."

The post also refers to several possible solutions and notes that OEMs can change the configuration of laptops before shipping them with Vista, saving customers the hassle of dealing with problems after buying a new system. If you already use a Vista-powered laptop and experience power problems when accessing 802.11 access points, then heading to Microsoft`s official Vista blog would be the best idea. Browse through the various suggestion and you will surely find something that works for you. Hopefully, as more drivers and protocols become available the issue will be dealt with.
