Groups Recruit Students and Form Organized Cyber Crime

The internet is developing in all fields, and online life is becoming more commune-like over the years. However, not only the positive sides of the online community are grouping and reinforcing themselves. Criminal elements are recruiting students to form organized cyber crime bodies that could carry large scale attacks through out the net. The internet security firm, McAfee, said that people are trying to take the KGB model to cyberspace by planting individuals in businesses as "sleepers" that can be used when the time comes.

Cyber crime is a multi-billion dollar industry, according to McAfee, and is regarded more lucrative than the drugs trade. Students find it easy to use their computer skills in a financially rewarding industry, and write computer viruses, commit identity theft and other malicious activities for various online groups. "Although organized criminals may have less of the expertise and access needed to commit cybercrimes, they have the funds to buy the necessary people to do it for them," the reports from McAfee mentioned.

As more people turn to the web for shopping, ordering and other operations that involve the exchange of money, the potential for cyber crime grows. Like with any other market, once people use it and the possibility of luring people out of their money exists, there will be people that will try to exploit it. Using antivirus programs, and firewall applications is always recommend, and if you decide to shop online then you should use known sites that will protect your privacy and legal rights.
